The anomalous 21-cm absorption at high redshifts

چکیده
Abstract The EDGES collaboration has reported the detection of a global 21-cm signal with plateau centered at 76 MHz (i.e., redshift 17.2), an amplitude $$500^{+200}_{-500}$$ 500 - + 200 mK. This anomalous measurement does not comport standard cosmology, which can only accommodate $$\lesssim 230$$ ≲ 230 Nevertheless, line profile’s range ( $$15\lesssim z\lesssim 20$$ 15 z 20 ) suggests possible link to Pop III star formation and implied evolution out ‘dark ages.’ Given this tension model, we here examine whether observed is instead consistent results recent modeling based on alternative Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker cosmology known as $$R_{\mathrm{h}}=ct$$ R h = c t universe, showing that – in model CMB radiation might have been rethermalized by dust ejected into IGM first-generation stars $$z\sim 16$$ ∼ 16 . We find requirements for process occurred would self-consistently established equilibrium spin temperature $$T_{\mathrm{s}}\approx 3.4$$ T s ≈ 3.4 K neutral hydrogen, via irradiation deep penetrating X-rays emitted termination shocks supernova remnants. Such scenario strongly ruled so $$\sim 3.3$$ 3.3 K) inferred from absorption feature appears be much more profile than $$\Lambda $$ Λ CDM, adiabatic cooling $$T_\mathrm{s}(z=17.2)\sim 6$$ ( 17.2 ) 6 K.

Probing the bispectrum at high redshifts using 21 cm HI observations
Observations of fluctuations in the redshifted 21 cm radiation from neautral hydrogen (HI) are perceived to be an important future probe of the universe at high redshifts. Under the assimption that at redshifts z ≤ 6 (Post-Reionization Era) the HI traces the underlying dark matter with a possible bias, we investigate the possibility of using observations of redshifted 21 cm radiation to detect ...
متن کاملVariable 21 cm absorption at z = 0 . 3127
We report multi-epoch GMRT HI observations of the z = 0.3127 damped absorber towards the quasar PKS 1127-145 , which reveal variability in both the absorption profile and the flux of the background source, over a timescale of a few days. The observed variations cannot be explained by simple inter-stellar scintillation (ISS) models where there are only one or two scintillating components and all...
متن کاملGalaxies at High Redshifts
Several conclusions have been reached over the last few years concerning high-redshift galaxies: (1) The excess of faint blue galaxies is due to dwarf galaxies. (2) Star formation peaks at redshifts z ≈ 1 − 2. (3) It appears to occur piecemeal in any given galaxy and there is no evidence for starbursting throughout a large ∼ 10 kpc galaxy. (4) There is significant and sharp diminution in the nu...
متن کاملThe global 21 centimeter background from high redshifts
We consider the evolution of the sky-averaged 21 cm background during the early phases of structure formation. Using simple analytic models, we calculate the thermal and ionization histories, assuming that stellar photons dominate the radiation background. The resulting 21 cm spectra can constrain the properties of the first generations of stars and quasars. If Population II stars dominate, Lyα...
متن کاملDrifting subpulse survey at 21 cm
We present the statistical results of a systematic, unbiased search for subpulse modulation of 187 pulsars performed with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) in the Netherlands at an observing wavelength of 21 cm (Weltevrede et al. 2006a). We have increased the list of pulsars that show the drifting subpulse phenomenon by 42, indicating that more than 55% of the pulsars that show th...
